EdWeek 2018 - theme and dates announced
This year's Education Week will be held from Monday 6 August to Friday 10 August 2018 (Term 3, Week 3). The theme for Education Week is ‘Today's schools – creating tomorrow's world'. This theme communicates how NSW public schools are equipping young people with the skills and capabilities they need to thrive in a rapidly changing, globalised world. 2018 Resource Allocation Model funding
In October 2017, all NSW public schools will receive a 2018 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. NDIS continues its roll out across NSW
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. Zone Athletics Carnival Success!
A great day in Bega was had by all! Congratulations to the Merimbula Public School Zone Athletics Team on their efforts at last Friday's PSSA Our Junior Boy's Relay Team came 3rd in the final, and 2nd in their heat! NAPLAN Online School readiness test
NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. It provides an opportunity for schools to become familiar with the NAPLAN Online assessment platform but is not an assessment of student ability.... Read more
Tennis Stars Again!
We have brought home the trophy again! For the third year in a row, Merimbula Public School are the South Coast Tennis champions in the Victor J. Kelly State Tennis Knockout Tournament. Last term, our school tennis team defeated Milton Public School. The games saw experienced competitors, and 2016 State Champions, Maka Ofati and Hollie Staight joining forces with school team first timers Luka Cowles and Mackenzie Morse. School Uniform News
With the winter months approaching, we would like to remind you of the range of winter uniforms available at our onsite uniform shop. Last year a new 'Drill Pant' was introduced, following consultation with the P&C. These pants are a sturdy work-wear material in navy blue. They are an alternative to the fleece-lined microfibre pants that are available. Shorts and skorts may still be worn in the winter months by choice. Introducing Healthy School Canteens
The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system. The revised strategy is consistent with the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines and classifies food and drinks as either Everyday or Occasional. Sugary drinks will continue not to be sold. Stop Work Meeting
As you are probably aware the NSW Teachers Federation has called for teachers to stop work from 8.45am on Thursday morning (December 8), for approximately one hour. Merimbula Public School will be operational and will provide supervision for the duration of the stop work meeting. Should teacher supervision be reduced, classes will be combined for activities and Learning Support Officers will assist in the rooms as per usual. The school canteen will still operate on this day. Jindabyne Excursion Gets 5 Stars!
Last Week's Stage 3 Excursion Was A Success! Last Tuesday Stage 3 students and their teachers departed northward via coach to the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre, something they had been anxious to do all year. Upon arrival, luggage was unloaded and the children settled in to cabins, their home for the following days. A camp day consisted of a number of exciting activities, led by an instructor, which included archery, canoeing and a challenging ropes course which tested everybody's mental and physical strength. Welcome to Term 4! We have had a wonderful start to the term, welcoming some new enrolments and supporting our 2017 Kindergarten children and families to have a smooth start. Grandparent's Day is celebrated in Australia on Sunday September 11 this year. Our school is holding a special Grandparent's Day Celebration on Monday September 12. Grandparents are invited up to the library. There is no need to sign in at the office as there will be a visitors sign in at the Library. National Disability Data Collection News
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) on School Students with Disability is a joint initiative of all Australian state and territory governments and non-government education bodies. Under the Australian Education Act, all schools are required to participate annually in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data. The data is collected annually across Australia to identify the number of school students with disability, as well as the level of reasonable educational adjustment provided for them within their educational setting.... We Now Have Online Banking To Help You Pay For Excursions and Events Quickly and Conveniently! Our Westpac Parent Online Payment system has gone live! Parents can access it directly from the school website under 'Make a Payment'. From today all School Stream permission notes will take you directly to the POP site once you submit the form so payment can be made (otherwise you can fill out the permission form and send in the money in one of our school money envelopes).
