On Monday July 22 the Merimbula Public School AFL team took on Albion Park Public School in Round 16 of the Tony Lockett Shield.
The weather was perfect at Berrambool Oval and our team were confident and ready to play. They played on a full-size field for the first time in the competition, as it was the Regional Final. Four 15-minute quarters were played.
Our school started out extremely strong, having a lot of shots at goal. The Albion Park Public School team were stuck in our half for most of the first quarter. In the second quarter our side continued in the same way, confidently gaining many goals. By the third quarter, playing full field and having no substitutes started to affect our side, allowing Albion Park to peg back some points.
By the end of the final quarter our Merimbula Public School team had increased their lead to post a great 61 to 21 win and put them into the State Quarter Finals.
Our team will now travel to Finley in the Riverina on August 16 for their Quarter Final match. The side would like to thank Mr Morris (Coach), Mr Taylor (for umpiring their game) and Mr Beaumont for giving up his time to train the team. Thank you to the school's General Assistant Mr Cooper for setting up and cooking the BBQ our team shared with the visiting side.
