The Zone Swimming Carnival was held at Candelo Swimming Pool on Friday, February 17. Merimbula Public School students did very well at the event, with 13 students making it through to the Regional Carnival at Dapto. Some of the school's outstanding results were achieved by the following students: Riley who came 2nd in the 100m Open Freestyle and 2nd in the 12 years Butterfly event; Will who came 2nd in the 12 years Breaststroke; Charlie who came 2nd in the 11 years Breaststroke; Mackenzie who came 1st in the 11 years Butterfly; Mie who was 1st in the 13 years Freestyle, 1st in the 12/13y Breaststroke and 2nd in the 12/13 years Butterfly; Tasha who was equal 1st in the 11 years Backstroke and 2nd in the 11 years Butterfly.

"Once again the students of Merimbula Public School have made us very proud" shared Principal Michelle Hulme "The support of parents and staff have allowed us to do well in swimming once again, as well as the year round swimming programs we can now offer as part of our Elective Sports Program". Merimbula Public School students attend Sapphire Aquatic Centre each week to participate in Flipper Ball (Modified Water Polo), Junior Life Guard, Learn To Swim and Lap Swimming Programs.

The school's relay teams were strong competitors at the event also. The Junior Boys Relay Team came 2nd, the Senior Girls Relay team came 1st and the Senior Boys Relay team came 1st also. The School finished second overall, just 4 points behind Pambula Public School.
