Last Wednesday morning saw the Berrambool Sports Complex come alive with Merimbula Public School's Boys Soccer Team playing Broulee Public School in the Primary School Sports Association Soccer Knockout.

The game started out hard and fast for both teams. Our school scored in the 21st minute of the first half, after outstanding team play resulted in Caleb being able to break through Broulee's defence and cross to Harry. Harry's swift play and anticipation allowed him to slot the ball into the goal net.

The game continued with determined play from both sides in the second half, with several of our players creating chances and having a shot at the Broulee goal.

All of the boys were playing a great game, making it exciting for the spectators. Zac, who was replacing star AFL player Heath who is playing in Darwin, played a great game, filling the role of impact player and being first to the ball on many occasions, allowing us to set up goal opportunities.

Ten minutes into the second half our side developed a strong structure and continued the attack, resulting in a goal from Joel in the 15th minute of the second half, bringing the score to 2-0 and sealing a victory for our side.

It was a hard fought game against a skilled and well-oiled Broulee side. They broke through our defence at times in the first half, and would have scored if not for our exceptional goalie Angus.

Lucas made the Broulee goal keeper work hard. He was all over the ball. All who watched on, excitedly, were so impressed with the skills demonstrated by all of our players. The players shared the ball extremely well, made sure they kept moving and demonstrated precision. They were also great models of our school's core values 'Respect, Responsibility, Care and Fairness'.

We will now go on to meet St George's Basin Public School at St Georges Basin in the coming weeks, for an opportunity to win our pool and play on for the South Coast title. Merimbula Public School's winning soccer side!
