In the lead up to the Zone Cross Country Carnival, the Merimbula Public School Cross Country team began training to increase their strength and endurance for the big day. The dedicated and committed team had some early morning training sessions on Main Beach with Miss Hensman, a Year 5 teacher and Sports Coordinator at the school. The students also pushed themselves to train in their own time.
The Merimbula team travelled to the Zone Cross Country Carnival at Wolumla on Friday, May 11thand were rewarded for their tremendous training efforts. Twenty-nine students represented the school, with most of the students finishing in the top 20 in each race.
"I was really proud of the efforts all students put in during the lead up to the carnival and on the day itself. They pushed themselves to the limit and I hope they are all really proud of their personal achievements," said Miss Hensman.
This perseverance resulted in the school being named Zone Champions. Outstanding achievements were made by Joel and Anna, who both placed first in their races.
